Designer's Note

Christmas lights for 12volt AC or DC landscape lighting systems.

NOTE: Since writing this we have made the lights for AC or DC 12volt systems and have increased the wire gauge so it is is easier to work with.

After begging for years the factory finally made these for us. We wanted a delicate set of wide angle super small but powerful LED lights for existing and new 12v landscape lighting systems. I just got them yesterday and tried them out in my yard. See the photos I took (sorry I did not have time to get a real photographer). I  also making a short video so you can see them up close and get some connection notes.

These lights add magic to any existing or new landscape lighting system. One neighbor told me they look like "fire flies". The little 4 year old girl next door said they look like "fairies". Because of their small size they really do not look like Christmas lights. I think they would look spectacular for any special event or just for enjoying the evening in your back yard.

Product notes: The wire is smaller than normal LED Christmas lights, it is about a #20 gauge. When you get them you will notice there is no plug. The end of the wires are striped and "tinned" and they are ready for a silicone wire nut. Our video shows how to use the wire nuts. The strings can not be added to end to end like other Christmas lights. Considering this string is only about 3.5 watts. Always consider the max load rating of your transformer.

Expected life: The product is not made to last forever. It is a small gauge wire and exposed to the UV and extreme weather day in and day out. Just like all Christmas lights they are considered seasonal. We are asked all the time for more commercial lights, but as of now we can not find a suitable product at a reasonable price. Also as your trees move and grow, it will put a strain on the wire. Be reasonable about your expectations.

For special parties, events, family gatherings, summer season, and even the magic of winter (see our winter landscape lighting video) these will truly be the highlight of any night time landscaping. Combined with our tree lights, path lights and spot lights you will have a unique and stunning space.

Finally if you have any photos of your project we would love to see them and share with our lighting family.

Wanted string lights that work on 12 volt AC to use for the Christmas season. These are well made, are very bright, and work well. I tied them into my regular 12 volt system with no problems, just pig-tailed them using water-proof wire nuts. I would be interested in getting a set with different colors and not just white if they become available. (Posted on 12/7/2022)

Very pleased with the lights. Good quality. Nice light temperature. Great to be able to connect into my LV garden light system. Would be good if they could be connected end to end. (Posted on 12/6/2022)

I've used these on several jobs and have been happy with the results. I leave a little slack in the wire when wrapping the tree and so far, after a year, they are still going. As for longevity, I tell the clients what to expect and so far they have all understood. Finally, the price is very fair because anytime a product is adopted for low voltage (bistro lights for example) it becomes very expensive. Probably because of economies of scale. Considering that, the price on these is very reasonable.

Thank you for increasing the gauge of the wire! (Posted on 10/12/2022)

I am very pleased with the LED Low Voltage Christmas Lights from Total Outdoor Lighting! I've attached a picture of my display so far. The tree in the foreground has 10 strings of your lights! Looks great!
The other strings I bought from LED Holiday Lighting because you had run out of inventory. They charge twice the price you charge! 6 strings of their lights was too much!
But, thank you for your very reasonable priced lights. They are great quality and easy to install. All the lights you see in the pic are connected to my low voltage landscaping system with a 200 watt transformer.I am very pleased with the LED Low Voltage Christmas Lights from Total Outdoor Lighting! Oh,....guess I can't attach a pic. Bummer. (Posted on 11/24/2021)

Wanted 12v lights to decorate a tree by my ranch gate, which is far from any power source except solar (which runs the gate opener and gate-post lights as well). I didn’t want the flimsy fairy lights, I wanted something that would look just like regular Christmas lights. These are perfect. You’d never guess they weren’t AC powered, they’re just as bright, the same warm white color, and draw very little current. I was surprised how efficient they are. (Posted on 11/22/2021)

bought 1 string to experiment adding string lights to trees as part of my landscape lighting.

they work well. the major drawback is each 21 ft string must be separately wired to the power supply.

still evaluating. (Posted on 4/15/2021)
Fantastic that someone has created a robust string light for 12 volt landscape transformers Review by SaharaLiver

Much heavier wire than standard fairy lights that can be used in 12 volt landscape transformers. Robust construction and warm white (yellow candle color) rather than the hideous blue ghostly glow of many LED. With the robust construction and 360 degree bulbs, I anticipate that the strings I purchased will last much longer than sets I used previously. To the best of my knowledge, these string lights can neither be shortened (cut) to length nor made longer than the 23 feet length due to the technique used to construct them and regulate 12 volts on a 2 (actually 3) strand wires. But very happy with them (Posted on 2/19/2021)
Exactly what I wanted Review by Ed

My wife the artist asked for some soft micro lights among the branches of a small Arbutus tree. I am committed to using only 12VAC for landscape lighting so 120VAC real Christmas lights were not acceptable. I tested the 50WA-6-G-WW-12V strings and found very low current consumption: 0.1A for string of ~50 or about 1.2 Watts. I also found that the 3-wire string has small groups of LEDs separated by 2-wire links, and cutting the two-wire links allows shorter strings if needed. I found that about two and a half strings worked for our Arbutus' aesthetics. At first try, the LEDs were quite bright, good, but way brighter than we wanted. A 125 Ohm 2W series resistor feeds the link of 128 LEDs and gives the right dimming. Yes, the resistor wastes energy but drops total demand by 50%, extends the life of the LEDs, works well with AC, and acts as a fuse in case the string develops a short (20+Amps from the landscape transformer into 20ga wire will most certainly cause smoke and sparks). (DIY'ers NOTE that successful dimming of AC-powered LEDs requires bench experiments due to the vastly different electronics that handle different LED assemblies. The mods above worked for me on the strings I purchased. Whatever you DIY, you DIY at your own risk! ). (Posted on 2/11/2021)
