I purchased this product to replace a $20 step light that is apparently no longer available. Although this light is double the price, I decided it was the closest in appearance to the set I am using, and maybe it would last longer. If the two I purchased worked out, I intended to buy more, for the rest of the stairs. The light does look somewhat similar, but I didn't pay close enough attention to the measurements. It doesn't fit flat against the surface the same way that my cheaper lights do. To use the new lights, I would have had to somehow bore out a hole in the step to accommodate the connections behind the faceplate. To visualize: Try to mount an older, tube type tv where you've been using a new flat screen. (Not implying this is old technology, just that the measurements are different). I found customer service to be responsive and accommodating throughout, and the quality of the product is probably better than what I have now, but I had no choice other than returning the product to look for a better solution.
